Fruit Hills Winery & Orchard
Fruit Hills Winery and Orchard is a hidden gem in Elkhart County not many locals know about. But when discovered it becomes a popular destination to enjoy wine tasting and scenic views of the fruit hills of Bristol, Indiana. It’s a relaxing way to spend your weekend out in the calm, quiet country and escape from the everyday stresses of life.
This winery offers a variety of flavors and options that are made from fruit home grown on the farm. Fruit Hills currently has 4 acres of vineyards planted and continues to expand. The orchard land has actually been in founder David Muirs family since 1852. The Muirs began growing fruits on the farm in 1898, a tradition that has continued today.
Fruit Hills Winery and Orchard opened up in 2010 thanks to the vision that founders, David and wife Michele Muir had to start a winery and pursue their passion.
According to the Muirs, they focus on a variety of grapes such as the University of Minnesota’s Marquette, Frontenac Gris, and Itasca. Tom Plocher’s Petite Pearl, Crimson Pearl, and Verona.
Fruit Hills Winery also grows a couple of older varieties, Vignoles and Brianna.
In addition to home grown fruit, the winery also purchases grapes and juices that aren’t possible to make in the region to help further the variety of wine options for customers. These include Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Tempranillo, and others.
One of my favorites is their Blackberry fruit wine which they call Black Velvet.
If you like ciders they also have those available too. Their flavors include Just Peachy, which is an apple hard cider that has a little peach flavor added and is sweetened and carbonated.
The other cider available is Triple Hop, which is a dry hard cider that is infused with three different hops and then carbonated.
Fruit Hills Winery also offers apple picking during the fall season, so schedule on your calendar to stop by for a fun filled day of apple picking.
Overall, the staff is friendly and this family run winery is a must visit when finding things to do in Elkhart County. You can stop by their tasting room and sample any of their wines. Below we’ve listed the hours they are open for business.
