Welcome to Wakarusa, Indiana. A city built around farming, manufacturing, and the kind-hearted spirits of the people living in Wakarusa. 

Wakarusa is located in Northern Indiana and sits just south of the city of Elkhart and just north of the city of Nappanee. Wakarusa was originally named Salem before the town got renamed in 1859. It’s a small town with a close-knit community, good home grown food, quality schools, and a workforce that works hard to build things.

Population estimates have just under 2,000 people currently residing in Wakarusa, Indiana. The town also sees many locals from neighboring cities come through each day as employees hold jobs at large manufacturing plants like Thor, Clayton Homes, and Prime Time Manufacturing.

Elkhart County is notorious for building things, mainly recreational vehicles and modular homes, but you’ll also find cabinet manufacturing, farm equipment, and other items being built here. The RV industry makes up a higher percentage of the workforce. Thor Industries, for example, is a multi-billion dollar company that lives here in Elkhart County and Wakarusa is home to a few of Thor’s manufacturing plants.

In 1979, neighboring city Nappanee and Wakarusa combined their schools to create the Wa-Nee Community Schools. Northwood Middle School and Northwood High School are located here in Wakarusa.
