Elkhart County’s Quilt Gardens

quilt gardens

Elkhart County is home to 15 Quilt Gardens and 13 hand painted quilt murals. The Quilt Gardens offer locals and tourists a chance to see over a million beautiful bulbs on display each year from May through September when in bloom.

For starters, “what is a quilt garden?” you may be wondering. A Quilt Garden is a collection of flowers that are planted together to form a beautiful garden with a quilt like appearance or pattern. If you’ve ever seen quilt blankets with different squares sewn together, imagine this but made of flowers instead.

These scenic gardens are planted around several Elkhart County cities such as Bristol, Nappanee, Elkhart, Wakarusa, Nappanee, and Goshen.

There is a map available so you can visit all 15 Quilt Gardens if you desire.

May 30th each year marks the day of planting when these Quilt Gardens are planted and as the summer heat, rain, and sunshine occur, these gardens blossom into full bloom and are visually stunning to look at. It’s become a fun activity for nature lovers to go seek out during the week and on weekends.
